I have to say, when the 2016 Pantone® Color of the Year was announced, I was not exactly leaping for joy. My first reaction was more like, “Really??”
It’s important to note that there are two honored shades this time: 13-1520 Rose Quartz, and 15-3919 Serenity. Upon first glance, one can easily jump from either hue to a whole host of connotations, none of which are very flattering. And yet, when shown today through simple silhouettes and paired with complementary color cohorts, smooth textures, and matte metallics, they become freshly and invitingly modern. Too young or old is suddenly new again.
Just goes to show, there’s often a clear method to what first appears as possible madness.
